None taken, I am very aware of his idiocy. His main defense seems to be that he objects to me fighting for myself and the dollar, rather than some broad concept of "good". Meaning he sees me as "bad".

[assassino]

[Deadpan look.]

And what does he think is "bad" about you?

[molotov]

[Molotov sighs very heavily.]

Samson has a... very black and white view of the world. There is "good", of course -- fighting for innocents, taking down those who would threaten them, selflessness, etcetera. Then there is "bad" -- being self-interested, not adhering to an agenda of world betterment, blah blah.

I do not have loyalties anymore; that time is done for me. My loyalty is to myself, at this point. I work for whoever can afford me, instead of for the government. I use every tool at my disposal, and let my ends justify my means. These things make me "bad", to him.

Samson, on the other hand, has wasted his life playing nursemaid to a family of infantile men who do not deserve his talents. The government threw him away. Now, ironically, he goes outside of the law to punish those that his psychotic, drug-addled mentor says deserve punishment. But this, to him, is fine, because it is for "good".

Besides all of these inanities, it does not help that we have always been on opposing sides. We were born in and worked for two different countries that were at war, under completely different ideologies that oppose each other at their very cores. By the time my country lost and I went freelance, he had already devoted himself to playing nanny, and he would not be swayed.

He also probably does not appreciate the punishment he has been suffering for twenty-odd years.

[Unimpressed sound.]

I'm sure you can do much better than him. If not here, than at home.

[molotov]

I do not disagree. But logic does not always triumph over emotion.

[assassino]

I suppose that is fair... I can't pretend I do anything differently.

[molotov]

And, to be fair, here is very different than in our world. Samson and I, at home, barely see each other. Here, most of our differences are irrelevant, and we do not have thousands of miles to escape each other with.

Other than the occasional fistfight ["occasional"], we are able to construct some semblance of a fairly normal life here.

[assassino]

[All the "women are equal" in the world won't endear him to the idea of men fighting women, and the look on his face says as much.]

Your heart must be set on him, if he could treat you that way and you would still marry him.

[molotov]

If it makes you feel any better, he never wins.

[assassino]

Believe it or not, I do think that Samson's willingness to fight me at all is a compliment. He has... some chivalrous tendencies that he would indulge if he thought I was weak.

I would prefer to be considered his equal, if the alternative is to be something he must protect and coddle.

[assassino]

I don't understand. How can it be something terrible for a man to protect a woman and be chivalrous? It is entirely for her benefit.

[molotov]

I do not think it is terrible, but it implies that a woman needs protection. If she likes that, fine. But I have worked for many years to be capable of defending myself against anything that may come my way. It is an insult to my hard work for a man to think he needs to "protect" me.

I do not mind other tenets of chivalry, I suppose. Opening doors and such. But that is really just basic politeness.

He may not need to, but perhaps he wants to, to show his affections.

[molotov]

I do not mind if he feels the need to "defend" me from... the attention of other men, as it were. I actually find that sort of adorable. But it is insulting to me if a man thinks he needs to defend me from danger.

[assassino]

I simply cannot understand why it would be insulting. It does not suggest that you cannot defend yourself -- only that he will do it for you, because he cares for your safety.

[molotov]

It is insulting because I can do it better than he can, and because most men do not defend women out of love, but rather because they believe that they must.

[assassino]

Have you asked him why he does it?

[molotov]

Samson does not do that, I was speaking in general.

[assassino]

Then why are you complaining, if he doesn't do it to you?

[molotov]

I thought we were just having a discussion.

[assassino]

[Pause.]

Fair enough. You just seem determined to discredit men who have good intentions. That just seems amiss when there are so few of them.

[molotov]

I have no intention to "discredit" anyone. I simply think it is important for people to think about why they are doing something. It is wrong to defend a woman any more than you would defend a man, just because you think she is less capable of doing it herself.

[assassino]

So should men stop to ask women every time, "are you capable of defending yourself?" instead of making an assumption? Better that than assume that they are perfectly fine, I think.

[molotov]

Men and women should all defend each other equally.
