[Maladict has not been a fan of this world change. Not one bit. The dress had been the first thing to go, luckily her dear 'husband' had clothes she could steal. Clothes that were too big for her, certainly, but at least they weren't dresses with vomit-inducing floral print on them.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the second she stepped outside, one of the neighbours had joked that a "little woman" like herself shouldn't be dressing like that, and whatever flights of fantasy will she get in her silly little head this time? Gosh, Maybe she should scoot back to the kitchen and whip up a nice pot roast.

The neighbour stopped laughing shortly after Maladict inserted a lawn flamingo in a rather unfortunate place on his person and suggested he keep his comments to himself.

And now, Maladict is sitting in the living room, watching the creepy, smiling children who she assumed belonged to her and Nikola by the way they kept calling them "Mom and Pop", hating everything about her current situation
]

It's good to know that the castle can always be relied on to make a stupid holiday even stupider every year.

...

Does anyone want some extra children? Mine keep expecting me to feed them or something.

[Maladict has been quiet since receiving James' note. It was worrying, watching the people she cared about slowly disappear from her life. As an immortal, she'd thought she'd been prepared for such things, but it turns out it's a lot harder to lose people when you start to CARE for them, than keeping them at an easy arms reach.

She doesn't announce James and Ashley's departure, should someone mention their absence, she will help them then, but otherwise, they can go gallivanting off into the dead zone. She realises she's probably a little more bitter about their leaving than she'd like to admit.

Still, she knows she can't dwell on this. She refuses to become one of those shut ins who avoids everyone, but she's not exactly good at making friends, either. Here goes nothing
]

Well, it's a pretty dull evening by anyone's standards. Does anyone fancy going out to the strip club or something? I could allow for something more tame for the prudes amongst you.

[Yep. That's totally how you make friends

So. It's that time already.

I know it doesn't mean much, in the current state of chaos and whatnot, but I've been here for three Earth years today. It feels like a lot longer.

[She lets out a soft sigh, doodling a turtle on the page, a turtle with four elephants on its back and a round, flat shape resting on their own backs]

So many people I know have been sent home at this point. Some of them have been sent home twice. Makes you wonder when it'll be your turn.

Well, that was an experience. I have to admit though, that Hogwarts place had a nice setup. Back home, we have a place called the Unseen University, big building where wizards learn magic and find new ways to balls up the universe. They pretty much never leave, though, and women aren't allowed from what I understand. Witches do a different kind of magic, practical and less showy.

Anyway, aside from the fake memories I suppose we've had worse world changes.

[Maladict is sitting in the Death Match, a cup of blood on the table before her, fresh from the clinic. She's been leaning forward, staring at it intently, before she pulls out her journal to speak into it]

Yesterday was the League of Temperance day...not that that means much to any of you. Hell, I missed it myself, what with being in that Toe-key-oh place and being human and all.

[She runs a finger over the rim of the glass, and she's reminded how easy it would be to just down it. To just give in. She's not been in the best of places recently, but she's somewhat happy to learn that she still doesn't want to give up just yet. That she still wants to be this person she made for herself out of the ashes of her former life. That she's still okay with being her...whoever 'her' is]

Anyway. It's been five years and a day of being on the wagon. Yay me.

[Another pause]

Everyone get out of that mess with the creepy mask guy okay?

[It's the first time she's bothered talking on the journals, unfiltered, for over a month. She's stayed in Brock's cabin, avoiding everyone, hating the castle for taking away such an important part of her life here. She's not exactly sure what it was that pulled her out of the darkness. Perhaps it was the realisation that his birthday had come and gone. Perhaps it was because she realised she was moping about like a fool, letting her heart rule her head in ways she swore it never would. Regardless, Maladict's tone is even when she speaks]

I'm in the mood to go find things and either shoot and/or punch them. Who'd like to accompany me to the gym or shooting range. It'd be nice to have some company.

[Maladict had assumed Nikola had been on the cruise ship, while she was on the dinosaur island. Probably getting drunk off his stupid face on copious amounts of wine, so she had not allowed herself to worry about him. When she couldn't find him on the ship when they were rescued, a small sliver of it had appeared.

She'd remained in her hotel room for the remainder of that time, the worry only growing with each passing hour. She had no real desire to check out more Earth culture, Paradisa was already saturated with it as it was. She didn't need any more of it. Besides, she should be in one place, just in case. But the just in case never came. So, when she finally slept alone and woke up back in the castle alone she knew something was very, very wrong.

She stars at the empty spot on the bed for a moment, before getting up, getting dressed, delaying the inevitable. Eventually though, she opens the door to their room. Where there were two names, there was no only one. She swears in Borograian, slamming a fist through the wall. She fucking hates this place. She hates it so much. How DARE it make her feel safe to care about someone only to take them away. She leaves then, knowing she can't remain in the castle right now, casting a furtive glance to the door across the hall. It goes to show how much she cares about them that she bothers to leave the filter at all

may day!

[ The castle grounds holding the gardens have been transformed into a spring party sensation. Tall banners carrying the Tudor rose have been arranged in a representation of a border surrounding the celebration and events, but there are no real walls or barriers. It might make guarding difficult for the few in her employ, but that's hardly Queen Anne's problem. Nobody will be kept away unless they arrive with no mask (or representation of a mask), and although it might be hard to tell considering it's a masquerade, there will be some people (not many) from the city who have decided tentatively to accept Anne's invitation, helping fill in the crowd.

The theater stage has been covered in flowers of all sorts, as are the four wooden thrones arranged in the center. Each seat is taken, a tie for both King and Queen making for double the fun! Robb and Lucrezia have dressed as Orion and Diana, while Zelos and Galadriel have chosen Odysseus and Penelope (with a little help). The tops of their heads have been left bare, at least for the opening ceremony.

In front of them stands Anne in her costume, and she waits for the crowd to quiet before she speaks. ]

Good citizens of Cair Paradisa and City Royale, you come here today to seek pleasure and company, and I have never seen a finer or more unique looking peoples. I know you may find it difficult to smile in the wake of such recent tragedy. All here have known loss, but we have not let it conquer us, have we? God is with us. Brave souls here risked the unknown to discover the cause, while other remained to help rebuild. I am fiercely proud to see such dedication to one another, and I can only hope such unity continues to blossom! The work on the city will continue, as will the rehabilitation of the survivors most affected by calamity.

But today we spread our arms wide and heartily welcome summer. Today we make merry and keep our loves close. Today we celebrate an unprecedented event, two Queens and Kings!

[ She turns and walks over to the thrones, where the ladies hold crowns of roses in their laps and the men crowns of wooden antlers. She names each as she settles the crowns atop their heads. ]

Queen Galadriel. King Zelos. Queen Lucrezia. King Robb.

[ In playful deference, Anne will lift her skirts and curtsy to the four of them when they stand to announce that the festivities begin! ]

It seems like you lot are going out on another expedition. That's nice for you, try not to die and all that. Anyway, I can't go out there due to...reasons [ones that might make her snap and murder everyone the second they step back into a powered zone after being out of one for days] so I need you people going to do something for me.

You might recall last time, James Watson decided to bring back one of the birds that tried to kill you all. I'm sure most of you agree that this was a really bloody stupid idea and don't want it repeated. He'll be going on the this expedition, and so to keep your sanity and limbs intact, I have written this up, to aid you in stopping him from making your trip a possible death trap.

A LIST OF THINGS JAMES WATSON IS NOT ALLOWED TO DO ON THE EXPEDITION

* Bring back any living thing. Even if it looks harmless. Even if it doesn't have any teeth or claws. This is Paradisa and chances are if it looks harmless it's likely deadly.
* Bring back any dead thing.
* Touch something unusual without protective wear on. Gloves, and the like. Preferably a long stick.
* Lick anything that isn't food.
* Keep anything in camp to 'study'. He'll say he'll release it later. He won't. Don't believe him and his scientist lies.
* Go into the nests of things and take away eggs.
* Feed anything tea.

If you can make sure he follows these core rules, I'll be greatful. Oh, and if you needed any extra incentive, bear in mind if you die in the dead zone, you die forever. No come backs. Just something you ought to bear in mind.

So, it seems the Soul Cake Duck came early this year. Or rabbit. Whatever. It was nice to see food in this place that wasn't contaminated with insanity for a change. That should happen more often.

[She huffs out a sigh, she's bored and Tesla's been in Science Mode for a while]

I would give my left arm for something interesting to happen right now. Nothing big, just...like a really irritated demon or perhaps a swarm of giant bees. Something, anything to do.

Yes, people. I'm going to say it. I'm going to say the dreaded words and there's nothing you can do to stop me:

I'm. Bored.

[Maladict has been mostly ignoring the pie mess of yesterday. She doesn't really eat, and she's always got a good supply of coffee, so she just left people complain as they always do. Still, it's got her thinking]

Back home, tomorrow is Samedi Nuit Mort. It translates to 'Saturday Night Dead'. It's one of those holidays the zombies have taken as their own. Something happened in Genua with all that, I believe. I wasn't there, but that's not my point.

[She taps the journal, somewhat impatient as she gets to that illusive point]

I can count on one hand the amount of times this castle has celebrated a holiday from a world other than Earth. And, yes I am aware that Earth is the highest population of residents here, but when you get a holiday all about maths or...pie I'm a little confused as to which one it is, you have to admit it's a little ridiculous.

[Maladict is not a caring soul. After all she lost the baby the castle gave her, so why it thinks she's capable of looking after the elderly, she's extremely unsure. So, she's found a place out back to hide, to smoke and drink coffee and wait for this insanity to end.

She idly flips through her journal as she does so

Perhaps we all need a lesson in 'things not to do in Paradisa', because clearly you're not learning. So let me give you a helpful little hint:

If there's something new in the middle of the lobby, chances are it's the castle's doing and going near it will make something stupid and/or dangerous happen to you.

I mean, honestly, given it's a mirror, I'd of hoped you lot would have been more wary of it, given mirrors were a big part of the last problem we had. If you're incapable of learning such things, I suggest getting yourself a buddy who is.

[Maladict is frustrated. It's bad enough the castle favours Earth holidays above all others, but now this...idiocy has occurred. She doesn't mind the drinks turning into alcohol, as was the case in other years, because after all, people being drunk at this time of the year on the Disc was fairly regular.

...But this was something else entirely
]

Another well spent Hogswatch in this ridiculous place, then. When you people stop being idiots, you'll get your gifts from me.

Right. So I have a question. Are the polar bears giving caffeinated drinks thing a normal part of that Christmas holiday? Because I've been in the castle for a while and no one has ever mentioned it before.

Do you only have it on certain Christmases? And what does it have to do with that baby being born? Which is still a ridiculous reason to have a holiday but whatever.

[Filtered to those who experienced her nightmare]

...This is a long time coming, I know, and I'm [She pauses here, sincerity isn't exactly her strong suit] well, I'm sorry. About the apology itself being late, and for what happened within it. Sort of a double-apology if you will. I've been rather distracted trying to keep sane up until now.

Anyway. I wish I could tell you none of it was real, that it was all a figment of my imagination, but it wasn't. I was that person, a few years ago. I would have killed any one of you and really, truly enjoyed doing it.

...But I'm not that person any more. Or at least...I'm trying not to be. I gave up blood for a reason, after all. I have no desire to go back to that.

I'm really not good at this apologising playing nice thing, so let's just leave it at that before things get awkward, shall we?

[Maladict likes to tell herself that she isn't prone to making friends. And by and large, that's very true. She naturally keeps people at arms length. Even amongst her regimental sisters, there are only two or three she'd be willing to call her friends.

But sometimes, people worm their way close to her. Just enough that when they eventually go, she misses their presence. That's happened more than once this month, and Maladict has found a rather disturbing absence in her life because of it. There was a touch of fear settling in, too. After all, it could send anyone home at any time, and it deeply concerned her to learn that neither she wanted to leave, nor did she want certain people to be sent home.

And so, she's headed out to the firing range, where she usually goes to try and get rid of stupid emotional feelings like that. She takes a few shots at the moving targets with her Horsebow, her journal open to catch the KA-THUNK as the bolts hit home. Eventually, she decides to speak, almost as if she's started half this conversation in her head already
]

You know, that's one of the really annoying things about this place. You think you're comfortable. That you know what's what and you can deal with it. And then it just pulls the rug out from under you, and you're left struggling to catch your footing again.

It's times like that I can see the appeal of just picking up sticks and moving out to the dead zone. Lack of powers be damned. [There's another solid KA-THUNK]

You know what, forget it. Let's play a game. You people like inane games don't you? Name your favourite vegetable or colour or whatever. Or tell me if you find cats or dogs more enjoyable, or at least one less offensive than the other. Something.
